Michael Jackson's hologram 'performance' wasn't the only talking point from the Billboard Music Awards over the weekend as, somewhat predictably, numerous column inches have been filled talking about Miley Cyrus' rather barmy performance of the Beatles' 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' alongside Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips. Watch their rendition of the classic tune above.

Miley, who is currently somewhere on our island preparing for shows in Dublin and Belfast this week, has built this latter part of her career on the back of a series of massively eccentric performances certainly didn't let anyone down who might have been expecting something similar.

The duo - dressed to the nines in tinsel - traded verses of the iconic song with each other, slowing the song down to allow the addition of elongated vocals and cymbal crashes. Coyne even bows down and kisses Miley's bare foot at one point in the video.

This friendship between Wayne Coyne and Miley Cyrus has been brewing since Cyrus read an interview in Rolling Stone with Coyne in which he compliments his live show. Last February, Miley invited Coyne and Drozd to perform a duet of the Flaming Lips' 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots'.

"Our shows are very childlike, like kids on acid, and hers are too", Coyne told Rolling Stone. "We're so much alike in believing art is supposed to be fun. She's just a freak. I love her to death."

Miley Cyrus plays the Odyssey in Belfast tonight and the O2 in Dublin tomorrow.
