Vicky Cornell, the wife of late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, has publicly spoken out about his death for the first time.

Cornell gave an emotional interview to Good Morning America where she called her husband "the furthest thing from a rock star junkie" and spoke about how devastated his death by suicide last May left her and their two children. Numerous prescription medications were found in his system.

"My husband was the furthest thing from a rock star junkie, he just wasn’t," she said. "He was the best husband, the greatest father. I lost my soulmate and the love of my life. He wanted to be there for his family, for his children. He loved his life. He would never have ever left this world."

She added that Cornell's struggle with addiction was a 'disease'. "People think that addiction is “oh, you were an addict” and people don’t recognise it as a disease. And I feel guilty of the same thing. You think addiction is a choice, and it’s not."
