There was much controversy earlier this month when it was announced that Bono was the first-ever male recipient of a Glamour magazine Woman of the Year award, with many complaining that it should have gone to... y'know... a woman, like it always has.

Nevertheless, the ceremony took place on Monday night, and footage has emerged of the U2 frontman's acceptance speech - which was introduced by Amy Poehler - in which he called for Donald Trump to tackle gender inequality.

“I say to the president-elect: look across to women, make equality a priority, it is the only way forward," he said, as his wife Ali and daughters Eve and Jordan looked on. "As my daughter Jordan says, there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunities as men.

“Unless we address this problem, both men and women together, the world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path. The train is leaving the station, be on it or be under it.”

He also acknowledged the controversy that had been generated by being named the recipient by reading some 'Mean Tweets' about himself on stage:

Actress Eve later posted a picture of her family to Instagram, captioned: "Even though our facial expressions would suggest otherwise, we really were very happy and proud to see dad become the first Man Of The Year at the Glamour Awards last night. In a year where men are celebrated, rewarded and even granted the presidency of the United States for bragging about sexually assaulting women, encouraging violence against women, for planning to take away a woman's right to her own reproductive health and for being just plain WRONG on SO MANY LEVELS, it is important to take a moment to celebrate the men out there that are getting it right!
I am so proud to have this man as my father I could burst. He works harder than any man I have ever known and he works harder FOR WOMEN than any man I have ever known. He deserves all of the awards and all of the love and the world needs more men like him.

He is also very tall, very handsome and very intelligent.
Did I mention that he's very tall?
