As you're probably aware, the 49th Superbowl took place at the University of Phoenix stadium in Arizona yesterday.

More importantly, Katy Perry's halftime show took place at the same venue.

The pop star turned in a characteristically outlandish and colourful performance, emerging on a giant animatronic lion/bear-type thing with scores of dancers as she performed 'Roar' and moved onto a giant chess set for a snippet of 'Dark Horse'.

Lenny Kravitz also performed (without his scarf - boooo), duetting with Perry on her hit 'I Kissed a Girl'.  And then… and then… MISSY ELLIOT APPEARED TO DO 'GET UR FREAK ON', 'WORK IT' and 'LOSE CONTROL'!

The whole 12 minute show has to be seen to be believed - watch it below.

In other Superbowl music-related news, Irish rock duo Kid Karate got a slice of the action when their song 'Louder' was used to soundtrack the 30-second TV advert for 'The Royals', E! Entertainment's first scripted TV drama.
