Video Preview - Iveagh Gardens Gigs
The Iveagh Gardens will resonate with music and laughter for a fortnight with next week’s concerts from Rufus Wainwright, The Waterboys, Lisa Hannigan and their many musical guests, closely followed by the Vodafone Comedy Festival the week after. The stunning urban setting has become synonymous with great music, arts and entertainment events and the next fortnight promises something for everyone. Easily the most accessible festival site in the country, the gardens are tucked away just off St. Stephen’s Green. With fantastic food offerings, a bevy of refreshments to suit all tastes and some of the world’s greatest musicians and comedians gathered in the one spot, The Iveagh Gardens are the Dublin city hangout for the next two weeks.
First up on the music bill is the extraordinary and flamboyant Rufus Wainwright on Wednesday July 18th. Rufus and band will bring the Iveagh audience a collection of spellbinding stories, liberally laced with drama and wry wit. An evening of classic pop pleasure is guaranteed from Wainwright, one of the world’s most gifted and charismatic performers. Tickets are €44.05.
Friday July 20th sees legendary Celtic warriors The Waterboys take to the Iveagh Gardens stage. Mike Scott and his band of troubadours are one of the most enduring bands of the last twenty years, with hit after hit under their belts and a continuous stream of brand new material and side projects to boot. Their live shows are legendary and the Iveagh Gardens concert is lining up to be one of their biggest music events ever. Tickets are €44.00.
The final Iveagh Gardens musical instalment will be on Saturday July 21st, headed up by Ireland’s leading light at home and abroad, Lisa Hannigan. Of the singer songwriter, music bible Rolling Stone said "Her voice is light and agile, her phrasing like exquisite plumage, and her folksy songs move with deceptive power, sailing on guitars, strings and Irish drama." Also on the bill are the sublime Cathy Davey, Oaklahoma’s exquisite Other Lives and up and coming band CHAMPS.
