Tripod, Crawdaddy, The Lower Deck venues close down **UPDATED**

13 February 2012

The Dublin gig and nightclubbing landscape took a hefty blow over the weekend with the news that POD has permanently shut down its Harcourt Street venues Tripod and Crawdaddy, according to The Sunday Times and Nialler9.com. The downstairs venue at The Lower Deck in Portobello has also been closed, as has The Odeon beside the POD complex.

It is believed that the POD complex will be renovated into a single large-scale nightclub to accompany the nearby Copper Face Jack's and Krystle and will be run by the management company who look after Flannery's assets.

It remains unclear what will happen to the various gigs which have been scheduled for these venues in the coming months, such as next week's Django Django gig which was supposed to take place in Crawdaddy, but it's reasonable to suggest that Dublin's remaining similarly-sized venues like The Button Factory, The Grand Social and The Workman's Club may accommodate the changes.

We understand that staff (or at least some staff members) were informed at noon on Saturday that they would be losing their jobs.

According to their Twitter feed, Pod will announce the new venue for the Django Django show "very shortly". They also state that they will "continue to promote music".

Check back throughout the day as we update this story..

Do we think this means that the POD nightclub itself will remain open though?

Cian, a nightclub will remain there but most likely with a new name and under new management.
