A musical featuring the songs of well-known '90s  grunge acts like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins and more is in development.

Variety reports that the Seattle Repertory Theatre has commissioned the show, which will tell the story of the city's grunge movement through a fictional storyline along the lines of Mamma Mia!

At the moment, only songs from BMG's publishing catalogue will be used - which means bands like the aforementioned as well as the likes of Soundgarden could be included.

It's also believed that Nirvana's former manager Janet Billig Rich - who has worked on the likes of Rock of Ages - is also involved in some capacity, and playwright Matt Schatz will write the book for the as-yet-untitled show.
