Today marks a significant change in the release date of albums and singles in the global music industry - but it won't affect Ireland.

Up until now, Irish music fans have usually been able to get their hands on an album three days ahead of the UK  - where new releases came out on a Monday - and sometimes four ahead of the US, where new releases came out on a Tuesday.

As of today, however, the global release day for music will be Friday in all of the major music markets including the UK, US and Europe, where all new releases will be available from one minute past midnight on Fridays.

The move has largely been welcomed, but one musician who isn't happy about the change is Noel Gallagher, who said: "Unfortunately it won't make shit albums any better, will it? They'll still sound shit on a fucking Friday."
