Having teased the announcement earlier this week, The National have revealed details of their new album.

As suspected, it's called 'Sleep Well Beast' and the lead single is 'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness', which you can hear below.

The album is released on September 8th, and the New Yorkers will also play three Irish dates in September - one at Cork's Songs From a Safe Harbour festival (which guitarist Bryce Dessner is involved in) on September 16th at Cork Opera House, and two at Dublin's Vicar Street on September 17th and 18th.

Tickets for the Vicar Street gig are €57 and on sale from usual outlets next Friday, May 19th. Tickets are limited to 2 per person, and photo ID will be required for ticket holders on the night.
