She was rumoured to be playing the biggest show on TV earlier this year before Lady Gaga stepped into the breach, but it seems that Britney Spears will not be around for Super Bowl next year, either.

The pop star has been ruled out as the halftime entertainment for the annual football game, according to an executive for Pepsi, who sponsor the event.

"I can tell you it's not Britney," he reportedly said at a conference in Los Angeles when discussing the show yesterday. "That rumor happens at this time every year."

Spears, who is still holding down a residency in Las Vegas with her 'Piece of Me' show, had been hotly tipped for next February's Super Bowl slot after several media outlets reported a 'source' as saying: "Britney has made it clear to her team that it is a dream to perform at a Super Bowl. She has the hits package and appeal to be a headliner.”

That may be so, but it looks like she may be waiting a while longer to tick that item off her bucket list.
