If you've ever slagged off Peter Andre for his vocal prowess - or lack thereof - you should take into account that one of the world's best-known rappers once complimented his singing voice.

Of course, it was back in the 1990s and we're taking Andre's word for it - but he told Heat magazine that when he first met Jay Z after he sat in on a recording session in the States, he didn't have a clue who the rapper was.

"I have to be honest, at the time I didn't know who he was because it was just before 'Hard Knock Life' was released. He played us the whole album and I was thinking, 'This is really good'. Then I didn't think any more of it until it became so huge worldwide," he said.

He added: "He will never remember but the words he said to me, which meant more than anything, were, 'You can sing'. And that meant so much from someone like him because I was doing more soul-based stuff then."

Of course, that would have meant little to the 'Mysterious Girl' singer, considering Jay Z was a random rapper in the studio. Who's laughing now, eh?
