They're a band well known for their rowdiness and bizarre on-stage antics, but this story about Slipknot's Mick Thomson is a bit too close to the bone - literally.

The metal band's guitarist has been hospitalised after being stabbed in the back of the head, according to KCCI8 News.

They reported that Thomson and his brother Andrew were involved in an 'altercation' in the former's home in Iowa yesterday, which spilled out onto the road and resulted in Thomson's injury. Both men were reported to have been 'intoxicated' when police were called and both were taken to hospital with "serious injuries consistent with a fight."

Thomson's injury is not believed to be life-threatening and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor tweeted an update on his condition last night.

Slipknot's last Irish gig was in January, when they played Dublin's 3Arena.
