The Cure clocked in a mammoth set last night in the main stage. When all was said and done, Robert Smith and his band had been on stage for three hours and twenty minutes – earning every penny of their paycheck. All the hits were present: ‘The Lovecats’, ‘Close To Me’, ‘Friday I’m In Love’ (and many more!), playing somewhere in the region of 35 songs over the course of the set no doubt satisfying the cravings of even the most ardent Cure fans.
Other notables last night included Main Stage headliners Orbital, a brief (but excellent) set from Grimes, the absolutely incredible Wild Beasts but for sheer exuberance you’d be hard-pushed to find anyone yesterday who outshone Le Galaxie. The Irish electro act began their set in the Little Big Tent at 2am and, if there was a few sleepy eyes watching them when they took to the stage, everyone was wide-eyed and bushy-tailed by the end of it. Elaine Mai and Mary Kate Geraghty (singing N-Trance’s ‘Set You F joined the group on stage for some excellent messin’ and, when they victoriously left the stage after their set, they did so to the strains of the Jurassic Park them. Excellent.
