Rihanna and Bruno Mars bagged the gongs for International Female and Male Artist of the Year at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes on Saturday evening.

Rihanna took down competition from Adele, Nicki Minaj and Alicia Keys to win, while Bruno Mars topped his category, which also included Flo Rida, Will.i.am and Pitbull.

'Call Me Maybe', arguably the most brain-numbingly catchy tune of 2012, saw its performer Carly Rae Jepsen scoop the honours for International Revelation of the Year in what was likely a 50/50 shot with PSY.

The South Korean showed though that the 'Gangnam Style' craze shows no signs of dissipating in 2013 as it won International Song of the Year and Clip of the Year. PSY then, as you might expect, performed the song's iconic dance for the audience.

Elsewhere, One Direction saw off a challenge from Coldplay to win International Group/Duo of the Year.

The NRJ awards are run by the French radio station of the same name and have been operating since 2000.
