'Rescue Me' singer Fontella Bass dies aged 72
It's with great sadness that we report on the passing of the Rescue Me singer, Fontella Bass, aged 72.
Following complications relating to a heart attack, the soul singer died at a hospice in St Lucia on St Stephen's Day. The singer had also suffered a number of strokes over the last number of years.
The singer's daughter Neuka Mitchell (one of four children) said: "She was an outgoing person. She had a very big personality. Any room she entered she just lit the room up, whether she was on stage or just going out to eat." Bass is perhaps most known for the enormous 1965 hit, Rescue Me which reached no.4 in the Billboard charts.
