They say a change is as good as a rest, and it seems that's an adage that Jay Z has lived his life by.

Or should we say JAY-Z, as that's what the rapper also known as Shawn Carter has changed his name to.

The Brooklyn man was originally known as Jay-Z, then dropped the hyphen from his name for Jay Z in 2013. He even went through a brief period of using an umlaut in 2015, although Jaÿ-Z doesn't seem to have stuck.

Now, ahead of the release of his new album '4:44', he has reverted to using the hyphen but is going all uppercase, to be known as 'JAY-Z'.

The change was confirmed by his rep, but did not give a reason for the change.

Big news, folks. Now, back to work.
