They've been named on several 'Ones to Watch' lists for 2017, and Irish audiences will get a chance to see The Amazons in person next week when they play Whelan's in Dublin on Tuesday.

Before their gig, we caught up with drummer Joe Emmett from the English rockers and had them answer a few of entertainment.ie's Big Questions.

What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
I was introduced to Nirvana from a very early age. I bought the 'Nevermind' drum book when I was 10 or 11 and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was the first whole song I learnt on the drums. Needless to say it's never left my music collection.

When did you first realise you wanted a career in music?
I used to pull the pots and pans out of the cupboard at home and instead of my mum putting them away, she put on a Beatles record and just let me whack them. I must have still been in a nappy as I don't visually remember that. I guess that served up an appetite in the very early days.

In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Must. not. burp ( into mic).

How do you wind down after a gig?
A cold beer and unsuccessfully attempting to dry my sweat.

What’s the one song you wish you’d written or recorded first?
From a song point of view, "Don't Look Back In Anger" by Oasis. From a drum point of view, I wish I'd come up with the immensely irritating, yet probably most famous drum fill of all time from "In The Air Tonight" - Phil Collins.

What song of yours are you most proud of?
Our latest single Black Magic. We've been working on it ever since I joined the Amazons so to have that out in the ether is great.

What’s your favourite venue to perform in?
The Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

Your best and worst gig so far?
Best gig - Truck Festival 2015. Worst - our first gig in 2013.

Whose career do you envy, and why?
Dave Grohl. Aside from the obvious, he lives in LA and probably has a swimming pool.

Vinyl or digital downloads?
Vinyl every time.

Give your thoughts on Spotify in three words.
Death of Physical.

You can only have three albums on your phone/in your house at any one time - what three would you pick for today?
Oasis - 'What's the Story Morning Glory'
Led Zeppelin - 'II'
Bowie – 'The Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust'

Name one piece of music memorabilia that you wish you owned.
The original handwritten lyrics of 'Heroes' by David Bowie.

Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Album: Songs for the Deaf - QOTSA
Book: Apathy for the Devil - Nick Kent
Film: The Wedding Singer

Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life
M. Night Shyamalan and Jack Black.

You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
Texas BBQ pizza, but remove the chicken and replace with pepperoni.

You’ve been given €100,000 to spend, but only 1 hour to spend it. What do you buy?
Roulette - all on red.

Describe your perfect day off.
Cup of tea and repeats of Only Fools and Horses.

What do you have in store for your Dublin audience?
 A sweaty, apocalyptic mess.
