Pale Rivers are a five-piece alt-pop band hailing from the mighty Rebel County, and they've spent the last year writing and recording with Gavin Glass at his Orphan studio in Dublin.

The Cork band have had a big year overall, playing Electric Picnic in September and releasing a number of singles including 'West Point' and 'My Own Comeback' in recent months.

They play Upstairs @ Whelan's in Dublin this coming Saturday, so we asked frontman Eoin Hally to answer entertainment.ie's Big Questionnaire.

What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tom Waits,

When did you first realise you wanted a career in music?
I can’t speak for everyone, but for myself music was always something that I was interested in from an early age. As a teenager, then I guess it just naturally progressed from listening to playing in different bands in school and everything really stemmed from there, I think.

In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Angst laden euphoria.

How do you wind down after a gig?
Most of the time, the five of us stand in a hallway and talk about what mistakes we made. Then we’d most likely have a beer if we’re not leaving.

What’s the one song you wish you’d written or recorded first?
Purple Rain.

What song of yours are you most proud of?
We’ve been really happy with the songs that we’ve put out thus far, each one has it’s own thing or place that it reminds you of, saying that, I’m personally really happy with out newest single ‘My Own Comeback’, we tried to push things in a kind of different way recording that one and that’s always exciting to do.

What’s your favourite venue to perform in?
Probably Whelan's, we’ve had some really good times there.

Your best and worst gig so far?
Electric Picnic this summer was a definite highlight for us. We’ve been fortunate enough in that we’ve enjoyed the majority of our shows so far to be honest. It can be challenging at times doing support shows where the crowd is not there at all to see you, though it’s also rewarding at the same time.

Vinyl or digital downloads?
Both have their place I think, but there’s a lot to be said for physical releases.

Give your thoughts on Spotify in three words.
It’s a thing?

You can only have three albums on your phone/in your house at any one time - what three would you pick for today?
LCD Soundsystem - 'American Dream', Tame Impala - 'Currents', Alex Cameron - 'Forced Witness'.

Name one piece of music memorabilia that you wish you owned.
Not sure about memorabilia, but I would love a Yamaha CS80.

Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
L’amour by Lewis, Mao II by Don DeLillo, Magnolia.

Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
The cast and crew of Titanic could probably do the story justice.

You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
We’re big supporters of the pizza.

You’ve been given €100,000 to spend, but only 1 hour to spend it. What do you buy?
I could probably get myself a nice old mellotron with that much. That would be pretty cool.

Describe your perfect day off.
Setting up my new mellotron. Definitely.

Tell us why we should listen to your new album.
Our latest single, ‘My Own Comeback’. It was a lot of fun to record and put together. We recorded It with Gavin Glass at his studio. We were going for a kind of alternative/'80s vibe. One really cool experience with it was using different instruments like sax and strings on it; that’s not something we normally do and it’s always interesting trying out new sounds and seeing if they work together with what we’re doing.

What else do you have planned for 2017?
This Saturday we’re playing upstairs in Whelan's with another great band Montauk Hotel on the bill with us too. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Besides that we’re currently finishing off our debut EP which is going to come out next year.
