Prince will play a 16-date European tour beginning later this month, dubbed 'Prince Spotlight: A Piano and a Microphone'.

As the title suggests, it will be a stripped-back affair and the musician has hinted that there will be a different setlist every night, according to website Dr. Funkenberry, who quote the promoter as saying it is the first time in 37 years that Prince has undertaken such a tour. The story was first broken by Spanish newspaper El Pais, who say that Prince himself announced the tour during a small press conference at Paisley Park last weekend.

In a statement, Prince said: "Why do this now? For several reasons. For starters it is a challenge. I rarely get bad reviews because this is something that's been perfected 4 over thirty years. You have to try new things. With the piano it is more naked, more pure. You can see exactly what you get."

Unfortunately for Irish fans of the Purple One, it looks like he won't be visiting our shores on this particular run of dates, although he will allegedly play four nights across the UK. Apparently all dates have not yet been signed off, so there is a small chance that a date could be added…. we live in hope.

Otherwise, he will reportedly start the tour in Vienna on November 21st, playing the UKHolland, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France, Denmark and Spain before ending at Brussels' Royal Circus on December 22nd.
