When the Pixies first reformed in 2003 after countless haranguing and pleas from fans and concert promoters alike it was understood by all involved that their return, however temporary it may be, was to be a retrospective celebration of their past and that they were not casting any forward glances towards potential new releases. This was the deal and everybody was cool with it. But somewhere along the line, things changed.

As drummer and co-founding member David Lovering told us a few months ago, the band soon began to develop an itch for something fresh after touring their old material for upwards of seven years. The path towards being a 'novelty act' is a one-way street without any clear direction home, so the band decided that action had to be taken and they began to consider writing new songs.

"When we started back up it was seven years before we thought, 'Holy jeez, we have been doing this longer than we were initially a band'. It just kept going and going but we decided, even though we love touring and were still getting asked to do shows, that we couldn't just keep doing this in case we wear out our welcome."

More: Like what you hear? We have copies of Indie Cindy to give away!

And here we have Indie Cindy, the first full length studio release from the Pixies since 1991's Trompe Le Monde which will be released in Ireland on April 25th on the band's own Pixiemusic label. The 12-track album was recorded by Gil Norton at his studio in Wales, the man who drove the ship for the Pixies' previous through releases Doolittle, Bossanova and the aforementioned Trompe Le Monde

What's perhaps even more interesting is that about two-thirds of the album is already out there in the public domain. All of the tracks from the band's recent releases EP-1 and EP-2 will be included, as well as song from the new EP-3, which means that this isn't quite the shiny new release that a lot of people might have been hoping for - but we'll take it.
