It's been an old reliable in pub quizzes for a generation: 'What is the best-selling album of all time?'
Up until recently, the answer to that question has been 'Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' - but now the King of Pop's seminal 1982 album has been usurped.
Thankfully, it's not Ed Sheeran or Adele who have managed the impressive feat, although the answer is similarly depressing given the fact that it's a Greatest Hits album that has overtaken Jackson's opus as best-selling album of all time in the USA.
The Eagles' 'Their Greatest Hits 1971 - 75' has officially overtaken 'Thriller' after the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) re-calculated the sales of both albums. The Eagles' collection has been certified 38 times platinum, while Jackson's album (last tallied in 2017) is at 33 times platinum.
What's more, the band's 1976 album 'Hotel California' has jumped to number three on the all-time best-sellers list, with sales equating to 26 times platinum.
Don Henley released a statement on behalf of the band saying: “We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years. It’s been quite a ride."
