MCD officially announces Longitude, new Irish summer festival
MCD has today confirmed details of the newest addition to Ireland's summer festival calendar. Longitude, 'dubbed an open air event with more than just music', will take place in Dublin's Marlay Park from 19th to 21st July.
Longitude was initially rumoured on Jim Carroll's On The Record blog before Christmas and was the rumours were that MCD was looking at securing a venue for the endeavour, with Fairyhouse Racecourse and Belvedere House in Westmeath both mooted but they've ultimately opted for something a bit closer to our nation's capital.
It's likely that Longitude will saddle up with the UK festival Lattitude, with both festivals taking place across the same weekend - so expect the line-ups for both festivals to be very similar. MCD will announce the Longitude line-up in on 27th February, while Lattitude's roster is expected in the middle of March.
We'll have more on this as we get it.

No it doesn't Babs, we expect Electric Picnic to go ahead as planned this year - even if they're a little late in formally announcing it.

I presume if it is Marley Park there won't be any camping? Does this mean electric picnic is getting more and more unlikely to go ahead?
