Lostprophets singer remanded in custody on child sex offences
Ian Watkins, lead singer for Welsh rock outfit Lostprophets, has appeared in court today in Cardiff in relation to child sex offence charges.
The 35 year old is accused, among other charges, of conspiracy to rape a one year old girl. The singer appeared at Cardiff Crown Court via video link from Parc Prison. Watkins spoke only to give his name at the hearing, which lasted ten minutes. He, along with two female defendants aged 20 and 24, have been remanded in custody until March 11th.
Along with the conspiracy to rape charges, Watkins has also been charged with two incidents of conspiring to engage in sexual touching and making, possessing and distributing child pornography.
A statement on the Welsh band's official website read: "Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu."
