A new song written by a 12-year-old Kildare schoolkid has won a competition that attracted over 150 entries from across the country.

'Ireland is Our Home' was written by David Adderley from Scoil Mochua in Kildare, who penned it as a celebration of the multi-cultural and diverse society that Ireland has become.

The 'Song for '16' competition was run as a collaboration between the National Concert Hall, Disney Music Group and the Department of Education and Skills for the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, and the winning song was selected by a judging panel including musicians Jack L and members of Ham Sandwich and The Strypes.

The youngster - who performs the song with his friend Ammani Bengo - said “It’s amazing how I go to school with so many children who were born in other countries but have now made Ireland their home. This really inspired me when writing the song”.
