Nach bhfuil sé go hálainn?

Ed Sheeran's Irish roots have been well established at this point, with his granny and much of his family still living in Co. Wexford.

However, being born and raised in the UK and without having the Irish language beaten into him from an early age, it's unlikely that we would ever have heard him singing in our native tongue. Unlikely, maybe, but not impossible.

Sheeran has performed his biggest hit 'Thinking Out Loud' as Gaeilge for 'Ceol 2016', a new compilation put together by 2FM's Eoghan McDermott.

Other acts on the tracklisting include The Coronas, Delorentos, Ham Sandwich, The Academic, Daithí, Keywest, Hudson Taylor, The Riptide Movement and more. The album will be distributed to schools and third-level students from next month, and can also be downloaded from Conradh na Gaeilge's website.

As a taster, you can hear Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud'  - or 'Ag Smaoineamh Ós Ard' (skip to the 4 minute mark to avoid the waffle) and Kodaline's 'Love Will Set You Free'  in Irish below:
