The true identity of graffiti artist Banksy has been the topic of much speculation and discussion over the years.

There have been numerous theories about the furtive artist - including a pretty solid one that he is Robert Del Naja aka 3D from Massive Attack - but it seems that the issue may be cleared up once and for all, thanks to a slip of the tongue by rapper Goldie.

Goldie, currently promoting his new album, appeared on Scroobius Pip's Distraction Pieces podcast to talk about how the art world has cashed in on Banksy's work over the years, saying: "‘Give me a bubble letter and put it on a T-shirt and write “Banksy” on it and we’re sorted. We can sell it now."

He added: "No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over", before pausing and quickly changing the subject.

Del Naja and Goldie are childhood friends and stalwarts of the Bristol music scene, and both were active in the city's graffiti scene from a young age. It's not the first time that the Massive Attack man has been linked to the Banksy name, but it's certainly the most concrete evidence that he is behind the various iconic street art pieces dotted around the globe.

Even so, something tells us that we're not going to get confirmation on this one - so the speculation continues...
