Pop singer Kesha began a legal battle in 2014 against pop producer Dr. Luke, alleging that he sexually assaulted her during their ten-year relationship.

Dr. Luke denied the charges and countersued Kesha, saying that she was attempting to breach her contract with Sony Music, who Dr. Luke works for as head of one of their label divisions. Sony Music effectively sided with Dr. Luke, claiming that they were "caught in the crossfire" and had no other choice.

However, in late 2015, Kesha filed an injunction lawsuit, claiming that she was unable to work while the court case was continuously in motion. Today, her legal team fought and lost an injunction that would have prevented Kesha from working with Dr. Luke.

Kesha's legal team sought to have her contract with Sony Music and Dr. Luke's label division terminated or edited so that she wouldn't have to work with him, as the legal battle over his alleged sexual abuse continues. Justice Shirley Konreich ruled that her team were "asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry." Kesha was signed to Dr. Luke's label when she was 18 in 2005.

Kesha hasn't released an album since 2012, however Justice Konreich said that Sony Music promised Kesha that she could record music with Dr. Luke's involvement. Kesha's legal team dismissed this as 'elusive'. Kesha is now reportedly on the hook to record a further six albums with Dr. Luke and Sony Music.

Since the court ruled, #FreeKesha has been trending for several hours with many fans expressing support for Kesha and threatening boycotts against Sony Music and Dr. Luke's label artists.
