Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and One Direction the big winners at the American Music Awards

Taylor Swift bagged the coveted Artist of the Year gong at the American Music Awards, hosted by Pitbull at the Nokia Theatre in LA last night. Swift fought off competition from Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Rihanna and Bruno Mars to the honour.

Swift wasn't done there, though, as she also picked up the awards for Favourite Female Artist - Pop/Rock and the Favourite Female Artist - Country in what was a big night for the 'Red' singer.

Elsewhere, Justin Timberlake won Favourite Male Artist in Soul/R&B and Pop/Rock categories, while his 20/20 Experience Part One was deemed the Best Soul/R&B album.

One Direction also continued their winning ways by picking up the Favourite Band - Rock/Pop, while Ariana Grande was awarded the honour of the New Artist award, beating favourites Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to the trophy.

Performers on the night included Katy Perry, One Direction, Imagine Dragons, Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus.
