Haim pick up BBC's Sound of 2013 award
Californian sisters Haim will be celebrating this morning, having been picked by a panel of over 200 hundred UK-based journalists, broadcasters and industry experts to win the BBC Sound of 2013 poll.
The Haim sisters, all aged between 21 and 26, join past winners of the award who include Adele, Michael Kiwanuka, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and Keane. The award, now in its 11th year, traditionally provides a substantial spike in sales and interest for the winners.
Commenting on the result, BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens said: "Haim have an unapologetic passion for music that shines in their songs. They're brilliant musicians who have a real talent for tunes that merge their tales of growing up in the 21st Century with classic songwriting ability."
Haim have drawn favourable comparison to the likes of Fleetwood Mac for their modern-tinged 70's rock.
The full top five in the BBC Sound of 2013 list is:
1. Haim
2. AlunaGeorge
3. Angel Haze
4. Laura Mvula
5. Chvrches
