The British music icon had been plotting a comeback until a recent diagnosis of metastatic prostate cancer.

Stardust, who was born with the significantly less rock n' roll name of Bernard Jewry, had a litany of hits during his glam rock heyday, including 'My Coo Ca Choo', 'Jealous Mind' and 'I Feel Like Buddy Holly' and plans were afoot to release a new album of material in November.

Speaking of the new album just weeks ago, Stardust said: "'Alvin' is a new and exciting departure for me and I'm immensely proud of the finished product. Who knows where it will lead, but it's the best time I've had in years and it's all for real."

There is no news on whether or not Stardust's passing will affect the release of the new record, which would be his first since 1984's 'I Feel Like...'

Stardust died at home surrounded by his wife and family, Julie Paton and his four children.
