Dublin based music collective Popical Island are set to release a six track Christmas EP as a free download on Monday.

A number of separate Popical Island musicians got together for the project, titled 'A Hard Old Station: Christmas with the Popical Island Showband', calling themselves the Popical Island Showband. Two of the EP's six songs are performed by the Popical Island Showband, alongside four more festive offerings. According to the press release, "The Walpurgis Family take you on a walk in crisp snowy pop with 'Better Next Year'. Jonny Fun and the… Hesitations have a slightly forlorn tale of Christmases lost with 'I'll Miss You Christmas Eve (That's What I'm Going to Do)'. 'Christmas Song' by Tieranniesaur featuring the Sleigh Belles invites everyone back for a seasonal brew. Meanwhile, Yeh Deadlies leave the listener in no doubt that 'Life Doesn't Get Any Better Than This, it's Christmas' as they reminisce about beating country cousins at Monopoly."

The lead single 'The High Line' was written by Padraig Cooney of Land Lovers and recorded by Fiachra McCarthy of Pantone 247. It features a 21-piece band, including two drummers, five guitarists, brass, violins and several percussionists.
