With just mere days to go, the countdown to Electric Picnic is reaching dizzying levels of excitement.

The weather's looking good – well, at least alright, then – the giddiness is kicking in, the supplies have been bought and the line-up is looking mighty swell.

With that in mind, we've picked 8 acts that should be highlighted on your timetable.

Big names like Blur, Florence and Underworld aside, these are the acts you should definitely make an effort to see this weekend.

1) BELLE & SEBASTIAN - Electric Arena, Friday, 10.30pm

One of the finest indiepop bands of all time – yes, of all time – Stuart Murdoch and co. usually put on a good show. Judging by their set at Primavera earlier this summer, they're in fine form and the songs from their new album 'Girls In Peacetime Want to Dance' sound sublime live. This set will put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step, guaranteed. (Tip: if you get near enough the front, you might get pulled on stage to dance…)

2) DJANGO DJANGO - Electric Arena, Sunday, 5.45pm

The Scottish/English/Irish band released their second album 'Born Under Saturn' earlier this year, and it seems to have flown under the radar somewhat. In any case, it's a thrilling journey into melodic indie and electronica, and if they mix their set with healthy helpings from their brilliant 2011 debut, they could be excellent.

3) SHAMIR - Little Big Tent, Saturday, 11pm / Body & Soul main stage, Saturday, 3am

Shamir is probably the least-known name on this list, but don't let that put you off. 20-year-old Las Vegas native Shamir Bailey, has been blazing a trail right through 2015, thanks to his soul and disco-inflected electropop sound and incredible voice, as heard on debut album 'Ratchets'. Get on Spotify stat, have a listen, see his set and thank us later.

4) MY MORNING JACKET - Electric Arena, Friday, 9pm

It's very rare that My Morning Jacket play Ireland – in fact, it's been about seven years since Jim James and co. were last on our shores – so this gig is set to be quite a treat. The Kentucky rockers blend elements of psychedelia, country and roots into their majestic sound; in the right tent and at the right time of day, this could be special.

5) RÓISÍN MURPHY - Electric Arena, Saturday, 12.30am

You really don't need us to tell you why you need to go see Róisín Murphy, do you? The Wicklow woman is a national treasure and both her material with Moloko and in her solo guise has been fantastic, including her latest album 'Hairless Toys', released earlier in the year. If you're looking for quirky, danceable electronic art-pop with a knockout voice, do not miss this set.

6) TAME IMPALA - Electric Arena, Sunday, 10.45pm

If you weren't aware of the name 'Kevin Parker' before 2015, you will be now – not only due to his contributions to Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Special' album, but the growing success of his own band, Tame Impala. The Australian psych-rockers released their third album 'Currents' in July and it's a record that'll feature highly on every muso worth their salt's end-of-year list come December. If you're into deep grooves, psychedelic wig-outs and strident pop melodies, these are your guys.

7) GRACE JONES - Main Stage, Friday, 8.45pm

You can't help but feel that Grace Jones is slightly unhinged, but that's all part of the appeal. The last time she played Electric Picnic, her boundless energy and 'DGAF' attitude made for a superb set; stories of her diva demands of champagne and oysters backstage and her insistence on being driven from her dressing room to the stage in a limo were apparently all true and she spent most of her performance calling for someone to throw her up a joint from the audience. A recent gig in London saw her get half-naked and climb atop a fan's shoulders. Anything could happen, really.

8) FUTURE ISLANDS - Main Stage, Saturday, 5.15pm

It doesn't matter whether or not you've seen Future Islands before – you always have a good time, regardless. Of course, you'll have to hang around to see them play their breakthrough hit 'Seasons (Waiting on You)', but if they play it early don't leave; the trio are no one hit wonders and have a lot more to offer. Plus, there's always the fact that singer Sam Herring is a joy to watch, with energy, passion and dance moves that won't be matched by any other act all weekend.
