Scotty Moore, best known as the guitarist in Elvis Presley's band for many years, has died. He was 84.

Moore was playing in a band called The Starlite Wranglers in the early 1950s in Memphis, when he was asked to be part of the backing band for the then-16-year-old Presley's first hit 'That's All Right'. He went on to play on some of his best-known songs including Blue Suede Shoes, Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock and Hound Dog, and also took part in the famous '68 Comeback Special.

Rolling Stone ranked Tennessee native Moore 29th in their '100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time' poll in 2011 and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

The cause of his death is not yet known.
