You might have guessed that Ed Sheeran's comeback after his year-long hiatus was hotly anticipated - but perhaps not to the extent that he would break several records in the process.

Sheeran released two new songs on Friday - 'Castle on the Hill' and 'Shape of You' - and together, they broke the record for most 'Day 1' streams, both in the UK and globally.

In fact, together they were streamed over 13 million times on Spotify in the first 24 hours, breaking the previously-held record by One Direction.

Both songs are also #1 and #2 in both Spotify's and iTunes' Irish, UK and global charts, and reached #1 on iTunes charts in 118 different countries. Phew.

'Shape of You' has proved slightly more popular than 'Castle on the Hill' as things stand, but you can safely say that's what you call a successful comeback.
