If you, like us, are very fond of Vicar Street as a venue and have enjoyed some marvellous gigs there over the last twenty years, there's both good news and bad news.

The Thomas Street venue is set to be re-developed into a 185-room hotel, although the venue will remain intact.

In fact, the venue itself is set to be expanded in capacity by 500 seats - its current capacity is 1050 seated and 1500 standing - while its five bars will also be overhauled, according to RTE.

The 'Rock and Room' theme of the planned 4-star hotel will offer guests tickets/meal/room packages, as well as exclusive access to a new private club on the 8th floor that will overlook Dublin city.

Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions said: "We are delighted to be involved with such an innovative scheme which will bring a new experience to our clients where they can relax after a show and not worry about getting home.

"We will increase the range of talent we present and enhance the whole experience of attending a concert."

Planning permission for the redevelopment has already been granted, according to reports.
