Deftones bass player "partially conscious" after waking from four year coma

08 February 2012

Deftones bass player Chi Cheng has regained partial consciousness after being in a coma since a car accident on November 2008. Cheng was seriously injured when the car he was travelling in flipped three times after colliding with another vehicle at approximately 60 mph. Cheng, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car and fell into a coma.

18 months after the accident Cheng appeared to be showing signs of improvement, such as being able to track people with his eyes and slightly moving his hands. It was reported yesterday, February 7th, that Cheng has improved further and is now in a partially conscious state and is able to move his limbs on command. He is still unable move or speak but doctors are hopeful of an improvement.
