Recently, Stevie Nicks had floated the possbility of a new Fleetwood Mac album, and now her bandmate Christine McVie has pretty much confirmed that the legendary rock band are working on a new record.

Nicks had spoken of her apprehension about the band arguing amongst themselves if they were to record together again, but McVie told Rolling Stone that a batch of seven songs were recorded as long as two years ago, and they were hoping to finish them in the near future - although Nicks hadn't been involved yet.

"We cut seven songs in the studio already for the start of a brand-new studio album. Which we did probably nearer two years ago," she said. "We shelved that temporarily and then went on the road and did the tour. And now, actually, I think we're going back in in October to try to finish it off. Stevie hasn't participated yet, but hope springs eternal. She's going on a solo tour at the moment.”

She added that they would consider touring without Nicks 'as a four-piece' before embarking on a larger tour with her. “Lindsey [Buckingham] and I, we have plenty of songs,” she said. “There are tons more in the bag that we have yet to record. And they're fantastic. So we're going to carry on and try to finish the record. And then maybe if Stevie doesn't want to be part of that then we can go out and just do some smaller concerts.”

The band's last album was 2003's 'Say You Will'.
