R&B artist Chris Brown could be banned from entering Australia in December because of 'concerns about his character.'
Brown's history of assault could scupper his plans to tour Down Under in December after an Australian government minister said that she would be recommending that the rapper's visa application is denied.
The 26-year-old - who has also been banned from Canada and the UK for similar reasons - infamously brutally beat up his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 and was sentenced to five years' probation. He has somehow managed to continue his career since, despite subsequent convictions for assault as recently as last year, when he was jailed for 108 days.
However, he may not be allowed to tour in Australia. Speaking at a federal initiative to prevent domestic violence, Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said: "People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you: 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia. This is a government that is not afraid to say 'no.'
Over 11,000 people have also signed a petition against Brown entering the country since it was launched last Friday, and a radio station has reportedly withdrawn its sponsorship of the tour.
Rapper Tyler, the Creator recently pulled his tour of Australia after a petition against his violent lyrics attracted negative publicity. He was also recently banned from entering the UK for "three to five years."
