We're just a few short days away from the official start to the Irish summer festival season when Meteor Camden Crawl Dublin opens its many doors to a whole host of weekend revelers. entertainment.ie are hosting the Upstairs at Whelan's stage throughout the course of the festival and one of the bands who will play a much-anticipated set is Dublin's Bouts. We last saw them play a stormer of a set at the entertainment.ie awards The Erics last January.

We caught up with their frontman Barry Bracken for a quick chat ahead of their performance.

Hi Bouts! How have you been since we last saw you at The Erics in January?

Not many gigs since then but busy behind the scenes. We finished writing the album album and recording has begun. We're onto the guitars stage now. This means ear-plugs at the ready and all sorts of weird amp / microphone placements for the next month. Photos, artwork and lots of weird video concepts also in the pipeline...

I understand that your Camden Crawl set will be pretty much entirely new material. Has the period between January and now been spend mostly working on new songs?

It'll be half and half for the Camden Crawl set. Niall (bassist) is traveling to Perth for a month so our good friend and superb all round-bassist Shane Murphy from Land Lovers is guesting on the night. The few shows we have played this year have been mostly new material We're way out of practice on the older stuff!

Will we have to wait long until we have a Bouts album in our hands, or iPods, or whatever…?

It will be on your iPods, smartphones, desktops and streaming platforms of choice this September 2013 AD.

What about other plans for the rest of 2013?

So far the year has been totally album oriented and will continue that way until September. Preparation is over but recording and all the post production stuff and planning shows around its release will dominate our Summer. Last quarter of the year should see us back on people's 'screens' so to speak.

Are there any other acts you recommend we check out at this year's Camden Crawl?

Amateur Historians, Come On Live Long, Girl Band, Mossy Nolan and Eagulls...

Bouts will play Upstairs at Whelan's on Sunday 5th May as part of Meteor Camden Crawl Dublin.
