Bruce Springsteen may play a second date at Croke Park if the first gig planned - on Friday, May 27th - sells out the 82,300 capacity stadium.

Speaking to Pat Kenny on Newstalk, Peter McKenna - the Stadium and Commercial Director of Croke Park - said that a provision had been made for a second gig to take place on Sunday, May 29th if the first one proved popular.

However, tickets would not go on sale immediately.

McKenna stressed that a provision had been made with the stadium, the city council and residents for a second concert to be added, but not on the Saturday night as Springsteen's three-hour sets were a 'huge physical task' and two gigs in a row were not viable.

The possibility of a third date being added on the next available date - Tuesday, May 31st - was not an option, he said.

The matches scheduled to take place at Croke Park that weekend - Dublin v. Wexford (football) and Kildare v. Wexford (hurling) - would instead take place the previous weekend (Saturday 21st), meaning that the stadium would be available to be set up for Springsteen's gig(s) from Sunday 22nd to Thursday 26th.

He added that the stadium had planning permission for three concerts to take place this year, but - even if Springsteen uses two dates - there were no contenders for the third slot as yet.
