A number of high-profile artists are rumoured to be lined up to pay tribute to David Bowie at next month's BRIT Awards.

Unconfirmed reports have emerged in recent days that suggest that Adele, Coldplay, Bono, Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn may be teaming up for a special tribute to the late music icon.

According to The Sun, however, there will be no young whippersnappers like Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran taking part.

They quote a 'music insider' as saying: "A few artists approached the Brits to ask if they could be involved in the David Bowie tribute as they want to make sure it is done properly. He was a British icon and they want to provide a credible farewell which can honour that.

"The band will be full of musicians who grew up with Bowie and were inspired by him, meaning artists like Noel, Damon and Bono. It is unlikely to involve young acts such as Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran, but there will be a few artists who are already singing on the night who will be asked if they want to take part too."

Other artists who are confirmed to be playing the BRITs at London's O2 on February 24th include Justin Bieber, James Bay, Jess Glynne, Little Mix and The Weeknd.
