Andrew W.K. named Cultural Ambassador to the Middle East *UPDATED*
Andrew W.K. will travel to Bahrain next month as part of his new role as Cultural Ambassador to the Middle East, as appointed by the US Department of State. The singer, real name Andrew Wilkes-Krier, will travel to the region in December to promote (and we're not making this up) "partying and positive power".
His website states that he will first visit local schools in the region, followed by trips to the University of Bahrain and music venues, all with the goal of promoting world peace. Frankly, we can't think of anyone better for the job.
Speaking of his new role, W.K. said: "This is a tremendous invitation. I'm very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I've never been before. I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying."
This new role comes just a month after the newly appointed Cultural Ambassador delivered a motivational speech to a My Little Pony convention in Ohio.
Again, we're not making any of this up.
**EDIT**
Brokelyn are disputing this story on the grounds that there has been no official confirmation from the US State Department. However, Andrew WK's official website maintains the story is accurate and a series of Tweets have been posted from his official account denying that it's a hoax. Remember Geri Halliwell has served time as a U.N. Ambassador, so if Ginger Spice can be given (a largely ceremonial) role within a political organisation we're pretty sure that Andrew W.K. can too.
Don't believe the lies! I AM going to the Middle East and Bahrain next week via the U.S. State Dept.! brokelyn.com/partys-over-tr…

Top quality journalism there lads. A quick Google search that took me about 30 seconds reveals this to be a hoax. 30 seconds.

Hi there Alex. Thanks for your reply. The Andrew WK story has been picked up (and is continuing to be picked up) by various news and entertainment sources across the world such as Vulture, Huffington Post, NME, Pitchfork, Fox. One of the most popular websites in the world, Gawker, published the story 7 minutes ago. We are aware that a website called Brokelyn is speculating that the story is a hoax. Andrew WK's website contains a quote in which he talks about the role. The US State Department has not commented either way on the story, so the only concrete quote we have to go off is Andrew WK's. While this story may indeed prove to be false, there has been no confirmation whatsoever that this story is indeed a hoax.
