If you're an INXS fan, you may have a chance to hear the band's music performed live again - although not necessarily by them.

The rock band's story is set to be made into a stage musical that may see the light of day by 2017.

The Australian band formed in 1977 and continued to perform after lead singer Michael Hutchence's death in 1997, enlisting several lead singers including JD Fortune and Northern Irish vocalist Ciaran Gribbin.

Their former manager Chris Murphy said of the plans for the show: "We're developing two different scenarios, one of which is very closely related to the band's story. The other is a separate story altogether.

"We'll choose the one that works best for the audience - not what works best for the band or their egos."

The band split in 2012, but in an interview last year, drummer Jon Farris refused to rule out the possibility that they would reform and record new music at some point. However, that was before his brother - guitarist and band co-founder Tim Farris - suffered a career-changing injury earlier this year when he severed a finger in a boating accident.
