Last week, rumours were buzzing about the possibility of Adele, the world's biggest pop star at the moment, playing the next Super Bowl halftime show.

It was reported by some media outlets that organisers were 'desperate' to land her, but that her nerves about the sheer size of the show were a factor.

On Saturday night at her show at Los Angeles' Staples Center, however, she debunked those rumours in her own inimitable style - as well as rumours that she was pregnant.

"Of course I'm not pregnant. They thought I was going to announce it at the Super Bowl," she said, adding: "First of all, I'd like to tell you I'm not doing the Super Bowl. I mean, come on. That show is not about music, and I don’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no.

“Maybe next time, in my next album. I'm going to do a dance album next time. So, maybe I'd do it then. Fucking stupid rumours."

However, in the last few hours NFL and Pepsi have issued a joint statement saying that she was never offered the show in the first place.

"The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele," it read. "We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time."

Who's telling the truth? In any case, it looks like you won't be hearing the strains of 'Hello' from a big field in Texas come February.
