Adam Clayton has given the clearest indication yet that we can expect a new U2 album by the end of 2013.

All four members of the band were spotted over the weekend at the Electric Lady Studios in Manhattan, where producer Danger Mouse is said to be putting the finishing touches on the album. Incidentally, Coldplay's Chris Martin was seen there too but it's unclear whether or not he was participating in any recording for the record.

U2 have been working on this album - their thirteenth - since the end of their last world tour, which ended in 2011. Danger Mouse, who has seen considerable success with the two most recent Black Keys albums.

Clayton was recently quoted as saying: "We very much want to have a record out by the end of the year, September, October, November; that kind of time. We're working with Danger Mouse, who's a smart guy. He's on it; he's excited. It's a great team and feels liberating at the moment - anything goes. We have an abundance of riches, we could make three or four different records and justify that to ourselves, but to make the best record we can, you have to steer away from the ones you can make easily."
