A new music venue is being opened on Dublin's Dame Street next month.

'The Underground' will be a revival of the venue of the same name that once existed where lapdancing club Lapello is today in the '80s and '90s.

The new Underground, which will have a capacity of 120, will be situated next door to Peadar Kearney's pub and will be run by Dave Judge, the man behind Abner Brown's barbershop-cum-venue in Rathmines.

Judge said: "The Underground was an iconic place back in the day and I hope to recreate the vibe just a few doors up from the old venue , very excited about this project, it'll be a place for music lovers and for all of you people who've supported Abners up to now. Open in mid Sept all going well.”

He told The Irish Times today, meanwhile, that acts like Something Happens, The Fat Lady Sings and Lord John White would be at the opening next month, while it's also believed that it will be used as a venue for this year's Hard Working Class Heroes showcase festival.
