LCD Soundsystem are on the verge of releasing their new album 'American Dream', but before it hits the airwaves the New Yorkers have another announcement to make.

Synth player Gavin Russom, who has toured with James Murphy and co. since 2010, has come out as transgender in a new interview with Grindr.

In it, she said that she had identified 'along the feminine spectrum' for as long as she could remember and began coming out as transgender earlier this year. "This is my fifth decade being alive, and in each of those decades, there’s been a time where I’ve tried to say, ‘Hey, I think I’m transgender!'," she said. "This was even before that word existed.”

She said that her bandmates had been supportive of her transition, noting that "The general feeling in the group is that will make the band better" and that she had been spurred on to transition by the thought of going on tour to promote the new album and 'pretending to be something she's not.' “My body rejected it in the same way that it now utterly rejects going into a men’s bathroom or when somebody calls me ‘sir,’” she said.

Russom said that she would continue to go by 'Gavin' for the time being, although it may change in the future.
