With exactly one month to go until the big turkey-guzzling day (not the one that's today, obviously, the big one that involves presents wrapped in shiny paper and a fat man in a big red suit), a host of acts are releasing festive singles in the hopes that they'll be played annually for years to come, their royalties supporting them well into their retirement.

The first comes from Coldplay, who announced on their official website that they will release 'Christmas Lights' via iTunes at 8pm on December 1st. To this information, they added, "It is in the key of G," before wishing all their fans a great Christmas and holiday.

Meanwhile, Hurts will release 'All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day' on December 14th, also through iTunes, though as a festive gesture they'll be giving it away entirely for free. Hurts - All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day by dobraya

Next, The Futureheads are set to release a single called 'Christmas Was Better In The 80s'. How right they are. The tune will be released on December 18th, just one week before Christmas.

San Fransisco band Train are releasing their Coca Cola Christmas TV ad tune 'Shake Up Christmas' as a single on December 3rd. The song also features on the new Golden Gate Edition of their album 'Save Me, San Fransisco'.

More locally, Christmas FM song contest winners Funzo are re-releasing their victorious tune 'This Christmas' as a charity single in aid of Barnardo's on December 10th. The single will be launched in Crawdaddy on December 16th.

In older news, The Killers' latest yuletide offering 'Boots' is due on November 30th with all proceeds going to World AIDS Day, while California lo-fi surf-pop types Best Coast & Wavves have teamed up for the Christmas tune 'Got Something For You'.
