That's more than twice the amount of people who attended the festival.

More than 40,000 of us encamped ourselves to the fields of Stradbally for Electric Picnic last weekend but a significantly higher figure than that tuned in to RTE's television coverage of the festival.

Taking a cue from BBC's ever-popular coverage of Glastonbury, RTE dedicated the majority of their Saturday schedule on RTE Two to the festival and pulled in a total viewership figure of 104,400.

The broadcast was anchored by Eoghan McDermott and 2fm DJ Jenny Greene, with additional reporting by Al Porter and Blathnaid Treacy.

"We are delighted with the performance of Electric Picnic on RTE Two", said Channel Controller Bill Malone to the Evening Herald.

"It was an enormous undertaking and we've very happy that the audience watched in such big numbers. Saturday was a massive day for RTE Two, between The Saturday Game Live from Limerick and the Electric Picnic in Stradbally we had almost eight hours of live coverage of two huge national events.
