This Month's Top Albums - December

Christmas season is upon us, a season that does funny things to the album release schedule. Seldom are 'big' albums released this close to Christmas because the competition with compilations is so fierce. A few notables are coming out, however, and we've filtered through the dross to select three albums which we think are worth your hard-earned pennies this yuletide. Have a look below!
Green Day - ¡Tre!
The third in their trilogy of releases in 2012 - and their eleventh in total - ¡Tre! will be released at a particularly fractious period in Green Day's history. The band's world tour in support of these albums was shelved due to lead singer Bille Joe Armstrong's substance abuse battle, leading to gig cancellations all the way into 2013. The music on this third release is said to be more 'epic' than the previous two and, as the band's 2004 album American Idiot proved, there are few better than Green Day at writing sweeping punk-infused melodies.

Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day
In 2007, 27 years after their last gig, Led Zeppelin reunited (with the help of the late John Bonham's son Jason on drums) for one night only in a sold-out O2 Arena in London. This is the only time - and most likely the last time - that the surviving members of Led Zeppelin have reunited under that name since the band split up following Bonham's death and, while only a few thousand lucky souls gained entry to the gig, it was recorded and has now been released on DVD and CD and....it's rather good. Plant still has the voice, Page still has the solos, John Paul Jones has barely aged and Jason does the Bonham name proud. A must for any Led Zep fan this Christmas.

Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire
Girl On Fire is the fifth album from Alicia Keys - her debut on RCA Record - and her first since 2009's The Element of Freedom. In the year's between those releases Keys has found the time to get married, become a mother and has produced and directed a Broadway show. Interviews in the lead-in to the album's release have shown Keys to confident and completely in charge of her career. We're very curious to see if this self-assuredness transfers itself to her musical career.
